Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 August 2026

Canepy ("we", "us", "our") is currently in a pre-launch phase. This site operates a waiting list ahead of our app launch. This policy explains what information we collect from you today, through this website and the waiting list, and how we use it.

This policy will be updated before our mobile app launches to reflect how we handle receipt, payment, and loyalty data once that service is live. Nothing described here should be taken as describing how the live app will handle your data. This covers only the website and waiting list as they exist today.

1. What we collect

When you join our waiting list, we collect:

  • Your email address
  • Your name, if the form requests it

When you browse this site, we may also automatically collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and general usage data via analytics tools, if enabled.

2. How the app works

Once live, Canepy links to your payment card so that when you pay at a partnered merchant, the merchant's till system sends us a record of the transaction, which we match against your linked card automatically. This lets us deliver a digital receipt to your account without you doing anything at the till.

The same matching process powers our loyalty feature. Each matched receipt from a participating merchant can count toward a stamp, and once you reach a merchant's target, a reward becomes available in your account.

We do not store your full card number. Instead, we use a secure token, similar to the technology behind Apple Pay and Google Pay, to match your linked card to transactions.

This section describes how the app is designed to function. As noted above, the app has not yet launched, and this policy will be updated with full detail on receipt, payment, and loyalty data handling before that happens.

3. How we use it

We use the information above to:

  • Notify you when Canepy launches
  • Share occasional updates about our progress and plans
  • Understand how visitors use this site, to improve it

We do not use your waiting list information for any other purpose, and we do not sell or rent it to third parties for their own marketing.

4. Legal basis for processing

We process your information on the basis of your consent, given by voluntarily joining the waiting list. You can withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us or using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

5. Who we share it with

We use third-party service providers to run this site and store waiting list data, which may include hosting, authentication, and database providers. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We do not share your information with advertisers.

6. Cookies

This site may use cookies or similar technologies for basic analytics, to understand how visitors use it. These do not identify you personally. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep waiting list information until either our app launches and you create an account (at which point it becomes part of your account data, governed by an updated policy), or you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Withdraw your consent at any time
  • Object to how we process your information

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

9. Children

This site and waiting list are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our plans develop, and will post any changes on this page with an updated date above. We encourage you to check back periodically, particularly ahead of our app launch.
